I heard a Mazel Tov

I spoke with Faige Bodner Steinberg last night and she told me that Mechie just had her 10 child a little boy. she also has a grandson a few months old. There are also about 4 grandchildren named for Pearl already. Good Shabbos and Happy Purim

MY PURIM THEME

PURIM 2010
An astoniSHing purim thought

While reading the Megillah, I came to this astoniSHing discovery

· The story of Purim takes place in ShuSHan.

· The good guys do not have an SH in their names.
Mordechai & Esther

· The others do: vaSHti; achaSHveiroSH; zereSH; bigsan v’ sereSH; and a few others.

So what about Haman, the main bad character, you ask?

In the true spirit of Purim the bad turned to good and Haman became a hamentaSH!!!

Enjoy your SHaloch Manos of a hamentaSH, macintoSH,
DevaSH and guSHers in a waSHing cup.

My Purim Poem

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you a sneak preview of my shalach manos poem. Our theme this year is snow. i am planning on putting in popcorn, marshmallows, and fudge cookies with confectioners sugar on top. Freilichen Purim everyone! We miss you!

( Anywhere there our lines, I plan on writing in the hebrew word, but can't figure out how to do it on the computer)

While stuck at home for a week
We had lots of time to think about shalach manos treats
But all we could think about was snow
So on this topic, we will attempt to make this poem flow

__ __ __ (Sheleg) spelled backwards is __ ___ ___ (Galosh) you know
We hope you had a good pair of galoshes for this snow
Continuing on in the spirit of V’nahfachu
Lets relate this to Purim and the Jews
SNOW spelled backwards in WONS
Which is what we did against the wicked Haman

But seriously now, the snow brought out the best in us
So much Chesed was done without a fuss
___________________ (Mi K’Amcha Yisrael), theres no (Snow) nation like the Jews
We are there for each other, regardless of the forecast on the news

So enjoy the white laden gift, our friends
Just like the snow, you probably thought this poem would never end!

National Anthem @ Lakers Game

B'H it went well & it was a phenomenal game though their winning streak when we sing has been snapped.

I didn't get to meet Kobe or Phil Jackson. They don't even come out for the pre-game shootaround. Someone told me that Kobe is out there much earlier warming up.

One of the Ass't Coaches of the Grizzlies came up to me & said "I'm a member of the tribe also." His name is Barry Hecker. I had never heard of him but here's a link to his bio.

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/barry_hecker/index.html?nav=page

He said he's married to a "shiktze". He said he tried to get a rabbi to marry them but nobody would do it. His first wife was a shiktze also. His Mom grew up in Bensonhurst- 64th st & Bay Parkway, Anyway he's a real nice guy.

He called Henry Bibby over to shmooze & for a minute there we were standing on the court with our arms around each other. It was pretty cool.

Yossie this time I asked Henry why he stood off to the side when he shot foul shots.

One other cool story. While we were in the tunnel waiting to be brought out the Refs walked thru. Normally they have security & are stonefaced walking out. This time I told them "No special treatment for Kobe tonight". 2 of them stayed stoneface (white guys). The one black ref, Tony Brown, laughed & said something to me which I couldn't hear.

Then they had us standing at center court for a few minutes b/c they had a color guard & the refs are right there with us & he comes up to us & said "Oh you're singing. You'd better redeem yourself." Then we're joking around there on center court. They still had their jackets on, & David Julian asked him what's his number? The ref said, "You'll be able to tell me apart from the others" (b/c the other 2 were white). David didn't get the joke at first & I laughed with Tony & we shook hands & had some fun right out there on center court with both teams standing there, moments before they introduced us.

Then when we finished & we walked off Tony said, "You were great. You redeemed yourself".

Then during the game he did something I had never seen before. He called travelling on Kobe. He also made a few other calls for the Griz overulling the other guys. Ultimately it was a lousy technical foul called against the Griz coach at the end of the game by the the other ref that cost them the game.

Then for the game our seats (which we had to buy) were all the way on top. I could actually see the game better from up there then from the courtside seats under the basket we had last time. We were surrounded by a bunch of Kobe fans.

It was a great game, finished by Kobe hitting a 3 pointer with 4 seconds left. But the Griz were right there with them & shoulda won.

surprise

I had a surprise phone call from Meir yesterday. Too bad it was only a messge on my answering machine. He called to thank me for the little care package I sent him via a friend's son who was in for a couple of weeks and is studying in Gush.
I am also looking forward to Miriam's visit (with Barbara) this Shabbos.
Happy Purim everyone!!

yarzeit & anecdote

Well, I guess I could make a Shecheyanu on my first post on this. Wednesday night,we have yarzeit for my grandfather, Aryeh Leib b Meir.

Also on page 9 of the Purim newsletter, the story of cutting out Musaf was based partially on a cousin we had, Cousin Curly, who was making a Bar Mitzvah for his son at one of the Far Rockaway hotels. When going over the format and trying to break down the numbers, Curly was purported to ask that something could be cut out, such as Mincha. (Actually, Aunt Henna wrote that piece). The line about the "Additional service" was culled from the tag line of Louis' old travel agency days.

After watching Curling on the Olympics, do you think they're availible for Pesach cleaning?

National Anthem again

Needing a good luck charm the Grizzlies asked us to sing again this Tuesday, Feb 23rd against the Lakers. The game is basically sold out. They're not even given us free tickets. I'l try to get a picture with Kobe.

Upcoming Concert

We made it into the Commercial Appeal. We didn't even submit it to them.

More snow

Our power went on this morning around 2am. So we moved back into the house and are getting back to normal. Well, as normal as one can get with another (possible) foot of snow falling. We haven't had school yet this week (Meir and Men had today). And now for the punch line. As the snow is falling and I try to imagine shoveling all the snow, (BTW, my shovel broke today) I remember Ester Green coming out every few hours with her broom and sweeping the snow from the sidewalk in front of her house. Is she still alive?
As NY braces for their relatively small blizzard, good luck and stay warm.

The call

About 4:30 a.m i was awoken by my cell phone ringing. I got up and went to my bag in the other room and it stopped and the missed call id said it waas Aunt Helen's cell phone. I immediately called back but there was no answer and I left a message. I waited a couple of minutes and called her home phone. She answered and said everything was alright. Back tracking - during the day she called me from the phone store because her phone died and she was getting a new one and getting it reprogrammed. I asked that my cell # be programmed as her ICE # (in case of emergency). Forward - Aunt Helen said she got up to go to the bathroom and must have touched her phone and it called me. Of course now that we were both awake, she told me what she did that day with Dory's coats etc. I told her she awoke me from a dream about Yaakov and Mindy and Mom and Dad and othe family dicussing moving. The baby was already born but I couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl.
Please blog and answer the posts. I feel like I am talking to myself.
